With the opening of Mari J Salon, at 102 E. Main St., by Marinella Mangiafico-Oblon next to Mangiafico Bakery & Pastry Shoppe, owned by her father, Sal, the address is now known as Mangiafico’s corner.
Mari J. Salon takes over the site next to the bakery that previously had been occupied by a florist. Marinella cut the ribbon to officially open her salon on May 13, with her father, state Rep. Betty Boukus and Jason Oblon, at her side.
“The former flower shop was rebuilt this year and it feels great to have my daughter next door,” Sal Mangiafico said.
The two-floor salon was designed by Jason Oblon, Marinella’s husband. “The place came out beautiful,” DeVoe said. The first floor is a hair salon, with facilities upstairs for manicures, pedicures, massages and facial waxings.
“We offer one-stop shopping,” Marinella said. “Come in for hair and get make up, nails and a massage. What better way to treat someone. I’m inspired to make people happy.”
Marinella graduated from Vinal Technical High School with a hair dressing license and worked as a stylist in Cromwell and Rocky Hill for 16 years. She brings her experience and a client base to Plainville.
“Sal is highly respected in the community and a hard worker with an extremely good product,” DeVoe said. “I’m sure they’ll feel the same about his daughter.”
Marinella is happy to run her own business at the East Main Street location. “It’s an ideal place to be,” she said. “What better way to work than to be next to my family.”
Mari J Salon is open Tuesdays through Saturdays. Stop by for a visit or call (860) 846-0675 to set up an appointment.
